Ezekiel 37:9–10 “Then he said to me, ‘Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, Thus says the Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live’ So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army.”

In Ezekiel 37, we witness a valley of dry bones suddenly rattling together at the sound of the prophet’s declaration, with a breath and wind transforming these bones into an exceedingly great army. Today, many perceive the next generation as lost, aimless, and ensnared in darkness, paralleled by the formless void in Genesis 1, or the valley of dry bones illustrated in Ezekiel 37, reflecting the hopelessness often associated with Gen Z—a generation deemed lost and full of despair.

Yet, amidst this perceived barrenness, Ezekiel’s vision offers hope, revelation, and an invitation for encounter. What many see as dry bones, God sees as an army of awakening. Just as Ezekiel bore witness to the rattling bones coming together, we stand on the cusp of revival in this next generation. For in Ezekiel’s vision, it wasn’t the bones themselves that brought life, but the “Ruach,” the breath of life, which swept over them. The Ruach—the Spirit of God, the wind of His spirit, and breath of life—will dispel the darkness and usher in transformation. It is through encountering His Spirit that the seemingly lifeless will be infused with power and glory, forming a mighty army of awakening.
